Rotating shift rosters
The rostered shift drives the calculation each cycle, so an A/B/C rotation needs no manual correction.
Factory attendance is harder than office attendance: two or three rotating shifts, monthly contract labour, seasonal overtime and a payroll cycle that depends on exact working hours. Generic HR software usually discovers this in the first payroll run.

Status on the record stops leavers counting in headcount, and enrolments are cleared so IDs are not inherited.
Peak-season overtime is visible and approvable rather than blended into regular hours.
Fingerprint, face or card, plus IP-rated terminals for dusty outdoor gates. Specified from your site conditions.
Each device mapped individually, so you can tell which gate a punch came from.
A parallel capture for the first week, verified rosters before go-live, and settled clocks on every device.
Factory attendance is harder than office attendance, and generic HR software usually fails at it. You have two or three shifts, a high turnover of contract labour, seasonal production peaks, and a payroll cycle that depends on exact working hours. Here is what actually has to be right for biometric attendance to survive a factory environment.

Office attendance assumes everyone works the same hours, in the same place, on a stable contract. A factory violates all three assumptions simultaneously, and the software usually discovers this in the first payroll run.
The specific failures are consistent enough to be worth naming, because each has a fix that is a configuration decision rather than a software upgrade.
| Factory reality | How naive attendance software fails | What is needed |
|---|---|---|
| Three rotating shifts | Shifts are treated as one calendar day | Rostered-shift calculation that crosses midnight |
| Contract labour joins and leaves monthly | Stale records pollute headcount and payroll | Fast joiner-mover-leaver handling |
| Peak season overtime | Overtime is not separable from regular hours | Overtime tracked and approved distinctly |
| Dust, heat, gloves, oily hands | Fingerprint enrolments stop being reliable | Face or card fallback, or a ruggedised terminal |
| Multiple gates or buildings | One device assumed to be the whole site | Multi-device support with per-gate mapping |
A dry, climate-controlled office is the easy case. A production floor with dust, heat and protective equipment is not, and it changes which device you should buy.
Contract workers on a factory site are usually joined, worked for a few weeks and gone. If their records are not updated promptly, three things go wrong at once: they are still counted in headcount, their final settlement is wrong, and their biometric enrolment occupies a User ID that the next worker inherits.
That last point is worth dwelling on. Re-using an enrolment without clearing it is a common source of attendance appearing against the wrong person, and it is exactly the kind of error that is discovered during a labour dispute.
The device has to fit the physical entry point. An access-control turnstile designed for door control and a time-and-attendance terminal designed for a queue do different things, and forcing the wrong one onto a gate produces queues and tailgating rather than accurate attendance.
If you have multiple gates, decide which are attendance gates and which are access gates before buying, and confirm with us so the device you purchase is actually the device you need.
The first payroll after a biometric go-live is where implementations are usually judged. Three habits make it predictable: run a parallel manual capture for the first week, verify the shift roster against reality before go-live rather than after, and settle the clock on every device.
It depends on the environment. Fingerprint terminals are cheapest and reliable on clean, dry hands, but dust, heat and protective gloves make face recognition or card readers more practical. Outdoor or dusty gates need a ruggedised, IP-rated terminal. Bring your site conditions to a demo and we will specify accordingly.
Yes. Flowwkkr calculates attendance against the rostered shift rather than the calendar date, which is what makes rotating and overnight shifts work. Recurring rosters are available as a licensed module.
Employment status on the employee record controls whether someone counts in headcount and payroll, and their biometric enrolment should be cleared on exit so the User ID is not inherited by the next worker. Rapid joiner-mover-leaver handling is a specific requirement for factory sites, not an optional extra.
Yes. Overtime is calculated after standard shift time and reported distinctly, by employee, department or period, so peak-season overtime is visible and approvable rather than blended into regular hours.
Yes, with multiple devices and the right number of sync agents for your plan. Each device is mapped individually, so you can tell which gate a punch came from.
